Spending time with your kids
Last week I was downstairs working on my business while the girls were upstairs doing their chores. Well, they were supposed to be doing their chores anyway. They were fighting, yelling and screaming (please tell me that my kids aren't the only ones who do this.) I took a deep breath and continued working and tried to ignore the noise. Later, after lunch, the fighting continued, so I left and went to a local coffee shop and grabbed a bubble tea (these are amazing) and a dessert. I needed to get away for just a minute. I felt led to do a live on FB about spending time with your kids even when it's hard. That day it was extremely hard to spend time with them because I was so irritated, so I didn't. I looked back and realized that I should have explained to them that after they got their chores done we would do something together. They, more than likely, would have gotten their chores done so that we could spend time together.
Kids crave special time spent with the adults in their lives. My kids talk more about memories made than they do about gifts that they have received. They don't even remember who gave them what. I encourage you today to not make the same mistake that I did. There are a lot of activities that you can do with your kids that don't cost anything! You could go to the pool, play a sport, bake, better yet, bake something and take it to a neighbor, go for a walk, ride bikes, have a movie night, go get your nails done together, or do their nails for them, go out for lunch, or pack a picnic and go to the park and eat, go get ice cream. You could ask them what they want to do. It could be something as simple as playing a game. You could also write an encouraging letter or note and send to someone who could use a pick-me-up. Help them address the envelope and get it to the mail or drop it off at their house.
Go out there this week and spend some time with your kids before summer is over. You will only regret the time that you didn't spend with them. They won't want you around for much longer. Be cool while you can.
Much Love,
Lacy
PS. The August Sparkle! box has a s'mores dip that you could make together and every box comes with an inspirational card to send to a friend ;)
